Dental Forcepsused For Extraction
Doing a bit of egogoogling I found myself on the website www.archive.org , there is a video with creative license commons of my last presentation at the conference FOSS Badajoz.
can download the video from this page:
http://www.archive.org/details/FSWCOLPCSqueak
can also find audio special edition of the radio program "Red Babel" , airs Saturdays at RNE 3 (Radio Nacional of Spain 3); on Free Software in general, where I shared a table with Richard Stallman, Marcelo Branco, Paco Huertas, etc. .
can download the audio of the 2 hour program from here:

Kates Playground Strip 2010
Imagine you have to process 20 frames per second, and the image measures 320x240 pixels. Each pixel is composed of 3 data (the Red, the Green and the Blue) that are called RGB (Red, Green, Blue). If we have to process each image point, we will have 320x240 processing times per frame, the operations for the Red, Green and Blue.
have to achieve 20 frames per second with a 320x240 image, we need to do:
320 (W) * 240 (high) * 3 (RGB) * 20 (frames / sec) = 4,608,000 (operations / sec)
In a prosecution like this, the low speed of the OLPC is noted.
Well, the first port Linux code to the OLPC, was virtually without problems BUT processing speed obtained was sorry. Processing only 3 frames per second.
After some changes in the code (to avoid floating point arithmetic, loop unrolling, use of 16-bit bitmaps instead of 32 bits, etc) we managed 20 frames per second.
One thing to note is that the model and the philosophy of Squeak impose greater requirements to code. Put another way: Process Squeak video is not ONLY show full screen video, as soon as possible. If only we did that, we could get the same 30 frames x second with an image of 640x480 pixels to achieve the majority of programs monitoring video cameras. Squeak video processing is to integrate video as a full citizen in the world of objects 100% controllable and programmable.
no good video to see if we can not do anything with it. In Squeak video can be manipulated like any other object (you can rotate, move, resize, etc). It can also be programmed from eToys scripts.
This is the vocabulary of video object:
With this vocabulary (and vocabulary Squeak other objects) can do some interesting experiments .... For example: If we an animation in Squeak, the traditional , but instead of filling the container with drawings made by hand, fill with 1 frame per second from the webcam (using the property # lastFrame), we get a a video animation is fast (like that video of accelerated growth of the plants they put in the documentary channels, or an apple rotting in 20 seconds, etc) than it is to capture the Webcam.
The most interesting this option is that the accelerated video is a production of the child. Do not use the "show accelerated video" that does everything for him, but he has to deal with the problem, using knowledge they already have. Quite in line Squeak.
What other experiments can be done with the webcam and Squeak?

What Should Brazilian Wwx Look Like
the same way that Santa Claus came forward , the Kings brought me "B1 prototype" of the OLPC .
We must remember that the OLPC project is not a technology project, but is an educational project. Different decisions were taken, were always considering that the goal is to make a cheap computer, portable, strong and efficient to be used by children to improve their education, where it may be difficult to get energy for the machines.
To quickly explain that it is a OLPC, we can say it is a notebook "small" but it is sufficiently "strong" to achieve a major impact on educational processes. Small
:
- To
-
small. It is a computer intended for use by children.
-
is green!
-
- Rounded corners handles for carrying
-
has a joystick
-
The keyboard is rubber, so that less dirt and support some water.
-
antennas, when folded, protect the connectors.
-
Unable to open the computer without opening the antennas. This means that, by design of the hardware, everyone will always have the antenna raised ... maximizing the possibility of the P2P network works.

-
Small in Size:
-
weighs less than 1.5Kg
-
the display measures 7.5 "
-
the keys are for the size of the fingers of the boys
Shortly -

Consumption:
-
One of the slogans of the design is: "More battery == more useful."
-
Consumption is, roughly, 1 / 10 the consumption of a notebook "normal."
-
No moving parts.

Barata.
-
The goal is that each unit can be sold at 100USD.
-
The price achieved up to now is 130USD.
-
-
Small in Capacity:
-
Compared to commercial notebooks sold today are small in capacity. Although we must remember that the objective is that each unit cost only 100USD (a cost far less to that of the current notebooks).
-
We must also bear in mind that maximized energy savings and was not considered putting a quadruple-mega-super-cpu need a nuclear reactor to run.
-
Powerful:
-
Dual Screen Color / Black & White, with resolution of 1200x900 (200dpi).
-
The screen may be from a very low-power mode (black and white, with the backlight off) to a very comfortable (Color, with full illumination).
-
The display can run on the processor suspended. Permitting, while the guy is just reading, saving energy.
-
The display, in black and white mode without the light, has good visibility even in sunlight.
-
-
P2P wireless network capacity.
-
The wireless card can route packets to the processor mesh even suspended.

Multimedia 2 speakers included.
